ELY City 4s moved into third place of Division 7NW after battling to a 4-2 win over City of Peterborough 8s.

A slow start by Ely saw them fall two goals behind but their experience ultimately told as they regrouped and powered past their plucky opponents.

Although too late for an assault on the promotion spots, Ely usurp their opponents into third place, albeit having played two games more.

Ely started strongly in the game and were eager to impose themselves early as they created a number of clear-cut opportunities.

Liam Sheldrick in particular was lively for the home side as he found himself in on goal on couple of occasions only for a combination of ill-luck and good keeping to deny him.

As is so often the case for a team who are comfortably in the ascendancy, Ely fell behind, with a perfectly struck drive finding the single inch of space in the home goal not occupied by either a defender or the goalie.

Ely initially shrugged off the setback and again started to re-stoke the fires of their attack. Unable to find a much needed score though, Ely were punished once more by the visitors as a quick break brought the score to 2-0.

Rather than subdue Ely though, Boro's second goal only served to rouse the home side and their experienced core of players began to come to the fore sensing that a firm hand was needed.

Peter Jones pulled a goal back for Ely on 25 minutes and just a few moments short of the half Sheldrick atoned for his earlier sins as he netted to restore parity.

With all the momentum of a charging herd, Ely continued their assault into the second half and took the lead just a minute into the half as Sheldrick completed a sweeping team move.

Taking the lead from their more experienced team mates, Ely's younger players raised their game and it was their intrepid play that eventually led to the final score of the game as Jones netted.
