ELY sured up their position in mid-table with a comfortable win over lowly Peterborough on Saturday.
Though they started slowly, Ali Chapman’s side soon settled into the match and improved as the contest progressed, ultimately proving too much for a struggling Peterborough side.
The win saw them secure their sixth-placed position in Division 2NW of the East Hockey League setup, with a trip to St Neots to come on Saturday.
An injury to left back Angelica Ferentinos early in the first half upset the balance of the team, though Katie Spilsbury played admirably while out of position in Angelica’s stead.
Jo Rayner came close to opening the scoring for Ely early on but unfortunately saw her shot stopped on the line by an Ely stick.
It wasn’t long before the home side were able to make their increasing dominance pay however, as, goal after a scramble in the D, Gemma Mott pounced to slot home.
Ely continued to press forward and managed to double their lead shortly after thanks to a polished short corner routine finished superbly by Chanre Bond.
The second goal kicked Ely into gear and, rejuvenated for the second half, they picked up the pace, Bond and Megan Radcliffe adding further goals before the close of play.
Annie Radcliffe was awarded man of the match after a stoic performance o the left wing.
