ARCHERS from 17 clubs around the region gathered at Littleport Leisure Centre to take part in Ely Archers’ fifth annual Portsmouth event.

Archers shooting longbows, recurve and compound bows tested their skills shooting arrows at 60cm target faces at the 20-yard distance traditional for this round.

After 20 ends of three arrows each, the scores were added up and trophies awarded. The team from the Clophill Archery Club proved they had what it takes, winning both the ladies and gents compound competitions and taking the overall team prize.

There were notable home successes too, with Mark Webb, of Ely Archers, winning the Gents Recurve competition and Ely Archers chair Maggie Johnson picking up the ladies barebow award.

Sean Fox, another archer with a long-standing association with the Ely Archers, shot a couple of outstanding rounds to pick up silver in both the single and double compound competition.
