ELY AND DISTRICT BOWLS LEAGUE
Round-up by Ron Moore
THE evening League Champions were finally decided in the second week of the extended season. Soham A took the men's title and City of Ely earned the half point needed at Soham B to settle the ladies' section.
Newmarket's match was rained off when five points could have equalled City's total but it was conceded that the 80 shots required were unattainable.
In the finals at Stretham, Bottisham A won the Gordon Bridges Cup and Milton the Frank Turner Cup. Brian Lewis of Newmarket became the first holder of the new Lucas Cup for the men's singles and Marian Bysouth was the winner of the ladies' competition.
Rain caused the abandonment of the men's and ladies' knockout matches which will be replayed on Saturday.
