Men's League

ONLY eight points separate the first six teams. Suffering a rare two defeats in a week at the hands of Littleport and Fordham, Soham A have been overtaken by Newmarket. City of Ely won twice, picking up 12 points while Isleham earned 11.

Local bowlers were successful in the county finals. Dennis Lewis, of City of Ely, took the singles title, and Ely Beet's Ian Gilbey, Mick Daniels and Peter Creak pipped Paul Hughes, Tony Gipp and Trevor Ward of Haddenham by one shot in the triples. They will all represent Cambridgeshire in the national championships at Worthing.

Ladies' League

TOP team Isleham were beaten by bottom side Ely Beet but won all the points against Chippenham and Haddenham, widening the gap over Fordham to 10 points. Two victories for Soham A kept them in contention and Littleport have games in hand. Ely Beet, who had previously only one win, won two more by the same 38-28 scoreline, but still remain at the foot of the table.

Afternoon League Division One

SOHAM extended their lead with a win at Hiam and are followed by the Littleport teams who are tied, A having a better shot difference than B. Bottisham A are next, just ahead of City of Ely who stretched their winning run to eight.

Afternoon League Division Two

FORDHAM B continue to set the pace for promotion, up on all rinks in a re-arranged match with Cottenham, though they were beaten at Sutton. Fordham A lost out to Newmarket B but stay in third position. Sutton and Isleham have each been at home for three rounds of the Frank Turner Cup, their latest victims being Milton and Mildenhall respectively, but they will meet in the final on a neutral green at Haddenham for a trophy neither has won before.
