Lively attacking duo Becca White and Sharon Coxall made some exceptional long range shots to move the home side into an early lead. Harriet Draper and Holly Trueman played a strong defensive game, dramatically reducing Icons shots on target. The defensive pair were supported by the quick reactions and interceptions of Alice Carter on the defensive wing. Abbie Holgate dominated the centre court, ably supported by Ellie Cooper who made an encouraging debut on the attacking wing.
At half-time the Ely ladies had a healthy 10-goal lead and were playing a fast and controlled game. A change of position for the young Icon’s team in the final quarter dramatically closed the gap but Ely remained strong and held on to their narrow lead.
Player of the match was awarded to captain Holgate for her tireless persistence and interceptions.
