ELY 3 overcame local rivals Stretham in spectacular fashion at the weekend with an imposing 43-29 victory.

Previous encounters between the two have seen Stretham come out on top but not so on this occasion as a resurgent Ely side put their rivals to the sword.

With precise passing and channelling through the centre third, Sara Vail and Jo Hayward fed the ball seamlessly to the ruthless shooting partnership of Anita Reidy and Rachel Starling.

The pair worked tirelessly to evade the defenders and were on fire as shot after shot went in, notching up Ely III's highest goal tally of the season so far.

Stretham were kept at bay by fierce defending from Naomi Mercer, Jo Elkington and Charlotte Butcher; with Ely III coming out on top in all four quarters. Mercer was nominated as player of the match.

There was victory also for Ely 2 as they overcame an early setback to register a 37-17 win over Jets.

Jets rattled Ely as they went into an early lead and it took until the second quarter for Ely to settle and start playing like a team near the top of the division.

Janice Quarrier and Sally Shipley were on top form in the circle giving Ely a ten goal advantage at half-time. Fine defensive work kept Jets scoring chances down and Ely came away with a convincing victory. Jets awarded Ely's Celeste Gordon player of the match.
