ELY 2s were narrowly edged out 2-1 in a top of the table clash with Horncastle.
Coming into the contest, both teams were on top form and looking to maintain their 100 per cent starts to the season, but it was the visitors who ultimately came out on top after a bruising encounter.
Throughout the first half, both teams had periods of domination though neither of the sides could find a breakthrough. A tightly packed midfield made for a limited number of chances and at half time the scores remained 0-0.
The second half began at an equally fast pace before Horncastle finally found a breakthrough with a goal from close range.
Parity was restored after a shot was stopped illegally on the goal line and a penalty flick was awarded, which Jack Upton duly converted. It wasn't long before Horncastle restored their advantage though and despite Ely piling on the pressure in the dying minutes, Horncastle managed to maintain their advantage.
