Three Ely 10is Academy starlets were in action across East Anglia last weekend – and all three returned to the city victorious.
Alisa Chirgadze played her first tournament outside the academy at the Linton U12 tournament, but lost to a higher-rated player in the quarter-final. However, she went on winning the ‘consolation draw,’ beating another higher-rated player 4-1 4-1.
Jeremy Harvey, who was also playing his first tournament, headed to David Lloyd Cambridge (U8) and had taken on some very experienced opposition. After losing all of his pool matches, Jeremy finally got used to the indoor conditions and slower balls and finished on a high winning his last three matches.
Six-year-old Lynden Long was in action at David Lloyd in Ipswich (U8). After reaching the semi-final in his debut tournament, Lynden went a step further but narrowly missed on the title (10-8) against the tournament favourite.
And 10is Director Sebastien Scaux is excited about all the young talent he has on board at the club this season.
“I love it,” Scaux said. “To have young players who are super energetic, who bring in good energy, is great.
“I think Alisa, Lynden and Jeremy have the potential to be top players in the county.
“They could follow in the footsteps of the older players who are real role models to them.”
