ELY stock-car racers James Ellis and Shaun Dyer, smashed and crashed their way to race wins at the Norfolk Arena last weekend.

With the World Stock Car finals looming large in a fortnight, the local pair were keen to stake their claim on a place in the coveted 16 and did their cause no harm with a pair of impressive victories.

It was a busy day for Ellis who was competing in both the Unlimited Bangers and the 2L Bangers races and, as the championship points leader, was keen to increase his points tally and secure his place in the world final ahead of this weekend's final world qualifier.

Shrugging off a sluggish start in a number of qualifiers this season, Ellis's points tally was boosted after taking the chequered flag in the Unlimited Banger Final, a win he took after walling second placed Annette Nicholls (Norwich) in the closing stages.

Sean Dyer meanwhile, made up for a poor start in the 2L competition, by sweeping to victory

in the All Comers Race, putting in a brilliant performance to take the chequered flag - his first race victory of the season.

Stock Car Racing returns to the Norfolk Arena this weekend with meetings taking place on Saturday (6.30pm) and Sunday (1pm).
