Two Ely golfers are the toast of the city after winning through to the finals of a major national competition.
Every year over 3,000 golf clubs see 42,000 teams enter the Daily Mail Foursomes competition hoping to make it up through the rounds and into the final.
This is exactly the stunning achievement of Ely City members Elaine Bertram and Patricia Nixon.
Quietly and consistently winning match after match both home and away to qualify for the last 16 play-offs, held at Marriott St Pierre.
The Ely pair triumphed in the quarters and semi-finals with superb play, dogged determination and the odd bit of good fortune to make it through to the national final on the Old Course.
Unfortunately for Elaine and Pat, their amazing experience finally came to an end in the final with them losing to Linda Reeve and Elaine Meagher from Little Hay Golf Club.

But the club are delighted with their success.
“In spite of this, their achievement is an outstanding effort and not to be understated,” said a club spokesman.
Elaine said of the course “The Old Course is fabulous, challenging with some good carry required getting to the fairways and on many holes the magnificent trees mean that ball placement is critical to have a chance of reaching the greens in regulation...”
Elaine went on to thank the committed supporters who followed them throughout the competition.
The spokesman said: “We are justifiably proud of their run to the final in one of the UK’s most coveted national amateur competitions.”
