Goals from Martin Erhisere and Alfie Oakman were not enough to stop Ely City Reserves falling to a third consecutive defeat - this time to high-flying Milton.

The Robins Reserves were looking to kick start 2016 with only their fourth win of the season, but they were swept aside 6-2 by an in-form Milton outfit.

Ely’s second-string are now without a win since December 5 and have tasted defeat in their last three Kershaw Senior A matches.

Cottenham United have also carried their poor form into the New Year after they were defeated 5-3 by Sawston United last Saturday.

Since their shock victory over Wisbech St Mary in late November, Cottenham’s form has taken an alarming downturn, which has seen them lost their last five league matches.

A 2-1 triumph for Barrington condemned Soham United to their seventh defeat of the season, and in the Kershaw Senior B, Witchford 96’s inconsistent recent form continued after they fell 3-1 to Comberton United.

Littleport Town were in Junior Challenge Cup action over the weekend, and needed a penalty shootout to secure victory over Cherry Hinton Reserves.

Littleport sealed their place in the next round from the spot after the clash with the NMC 1A league-toppers finished 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Ely Crusaders also booked their spot in the fourth round of the Junior Challenge Cup courtesy of a 2-1 victory over Manea United.

Matt Brodie and Lewis Peacock netted for the Crusaders, who play in the league below Manea.

In NMC 2B, a brace apiece for Nathan Flatley and Nathan Taylor helped Cottenham United Reserves to a 4-0 win over bottom side Bluntisham Rangers Reserves.

Soham United Reserves drew for only the second time this season after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Brampton Reserves, and Isleham United closed the gap on Little Downham Swifts with a convincing 2-0 victory. Isleham are now only one point behind the Swifts in third, having played a game less.

In the league below, Burwell Swifts Reserves were the first team to take points off league-toppers AFC Barley Mow this season after battling to a 2-2 draw.

Barley Mow came into the game on the back of a 14-match winning run, but a last-minute 30 yard equaliser denied them a 15th consecutive win.

Isleham Warriors were in John Ablett Cup action, and bagged a spot in the next round thanks to a convincing 5-3 victory.

Witchford 96 Reserves kicked off 2016 in the best possible way against Hemingfords United A - by plundering nine goals in a 9-1 win.

Witchford Reserves’ victory sees them close the gap on NMC 4B leaders Tuddenham 08 to nine points.

And finally, in one of only three fixtures in NMC 5B, Burwell Tigers heaped more misery on Benwick Athletic Reserves with a 4-0 win.

Goals from Nicholas Baynes, Ben Reed, Jordan Wilkinson and Andrew Harrison sent Benwick to their tenth defeat of an unsuccesful season.
