Witchford 1 R Scott Soccer School 0

WITCHFORD secured a narrow victory in this competitive match.

The only goal of the match came in the first half, with Callum Munden collecting the ball on half-way and making a powerful run down the wing before firing in a crisp shot which found the net via both posts.

Ben Lymer almost doubled the advantage, but his header from a corner was unwittingly blocked by a defender.

The visitors finished strongly and hit the bar, but Witchford held on for the win.

Ely Crusaders 8 Newmarket Town A 0

ELY overcame a plucky Newmarket side to record their third win of the season.

Sam Felton broke the deadlock with an excellent volley from Jay Spittle's pinpoint cross after 15 minutes, and Alex Brown added a second goal before the break.

Newmarket's goalkeeper was in outstanding form, but constant Ely pressure eventually paid off as Sam Scarborough (2) and Jordan Marston moved the score on to five.

A late James Barrett hat-trick added some gloss to the final margin of victory.

Witchford 1 Haddenham Rovers 1

ROVERS began well with the windy conditions in their favour and went close through Rowan Shergold and Tyrell Barrett.

Alex Lowe also rattled the bar with a free kick from 25 yards before Shergold's mis-directed shot was turned into the net by John Falconer.

Witchford deservedly equalised in the second half, but both sides created chances and the result could have gone either way.

Papworth 3 Littleport Town 3

KEATON Aggaswal scored his first goal of the season to put 'Port in front, but the hosts got back on terms with a penalty kick and led 2-1 at the break.

Tom Wakefield made it 2-2 with a cracking long range effort, but Papworth restored their advantage and always threatened to score again on the break.

'Port fought to the end however, and a late corner resulted in a Papworth defender turning the net into his own goal.

Ely City 7 St Ives Rangers 1

CITY recovered from a disappointing cup exit at the hands of Chesterton Eagles by hammering St Ives on Sunday.

St Ives scored first against the run of play, but man-of-the-match Ben Amery prompted some excellent attacks and Ely were soon in control of the game.

Leading scorer Sam Ashman caused havoc all over the pitch and he was rewarded with two goals.

Ryan Lanes was likewise effective on the left wing with his blistering pace, and also contributed a brace to Ely's total.

Ed Dickinson also struck twice from midfield, and Sam Barber finally put away one of the many chances that came his way for Ely's seventh goal.
