CCA Junior Division 2N

RESILIENT openers Darren Ebbs and Ashley Legge built the platform for Pymoor’s two-wicket win over Wisbech III.

Wisbech batted first but were under pressure from the outset as Chris Baker (2-44) and Legge (1-52) turned the screws. Paul Strickle top-scored with 32 as the visitors finished on a respectable 176-8.

It was Ebbs and Legge who really stole the show however, as they scored 34 and 54 respectively to put the hosts in a dominant position. With the bulk of the runs scored, the task of brining the victory home fell to Steve Saberton (28) and Shaun Butcher (12) who put the match beyond a plucky Wisbech outfit. Brodie Ellis led the way with the ball for the visitors, taking 5-41 in an excellent nine-over spell.

WILBURTON went down by eight wickets in a high scoring match at Longstowe.

Tom Jordan and Stuart Buller opened with 78 for Wilburton, the former making a stirring 56. Buller then went for 16.

Tom Walker and Lee Newton added 112 in the last 10 overs. Newton was bowled for 96, which including five sixes and 11 fours. He and Walker had put on 149 in 70 minutes. Walker’s undefeated 63 included five fours and a six. The innings finally closed at 258 for 3.

Longstowe openers Nick Key and Paul Murden were almost up with the required rate when Murden was run out in the 30th over for 66 with the score at 150.

Key and Andy Jakes then blazed 52 in 20 minutes. Key (77) was dismissed in the 35th over with the score at 202.

Momentum was maintained as Jakes and Rob Hyles saw Longstowe rapidly to the points in the penultimate over, with Jakes finishing on 59 not out, and Hyles 37 not out.

Wilburton are at home to CCA Division 1 side Cherry Hinton in the semi-final of CCA Junior Cup on Sunday.

SUTTON battled their way to a two-wicket win over Waterbeach.

The hosts batted first and made a competitive 157-8 at the close of their 40 overs. It proved simply not enough in the end, however, as Sutton rallied late on to reach their target with two wickets in hand. The win keeps them in third place in the league, hot on the heels of leaders Milton and Longstowe.

LITTLE Downham were desperately short of runs as they went down by five wickets to Bar Hill.

Downham opted to bat first on a gloriously sunny afternoon but were only able to post 83 as the visitors took regular wickets.

Despite an early wobble, Bar Hill held firm to reach their target with five wickets in hand.

CCA Senior Division 3

MATT Morley’s 104 not out put Wilbrahams in a commanding position as his side totalled 220-3 against Fordham II in this CCA Senior league 3 match.

Ian Jelleyman grabbed 2-37 for Fordham.

Shoab Khan almost repeated last week’s heroic performance as he struck 63 in 13 overs with his side on 78-2 at this stage.

Simon Murfitt and skipper Chris Rule then added 70 for the sixth wicket but when Rule had gone for a defiant 51, no one else managed to get into double figures and Fordham were bowled out for 177.

SOLID work with the bat from Witcham saw them overcome Fen Ditton by 140 runs.

Taking advantage of the glorious overhead conditions, Witcham piled on the runs in the early afternoon.

Led by in-form Brandon Philips, who made 62, and Andrew George (41), Witcham soon cleared the 200-mark.

Contributions from Lorens Herselmann (40) and Angus Pate (21) guided the visitors on to 252-7 at the close.

Herselmann was again to the fore as Witcham took their turn in the field, picking up six wickets for just 35 runs as the hosts were dismissed for a mere 112. Top scorers were Adam Wilson and Alex Dobson, who each made 16.

CCA Junior Division 4N

ELY II came up agonisingly short in their run chase against St Ives III on Saturday.

Opener Andrew Waters hit a brisk 44 for Ives batting first and a stubborn knock of 30 from Keith Hodge kept Ely’s bowlers at bay.

Mark Deas took 3-44 for the hosts, Eliot Koopowitz took 2-23 and Dan Coston finished with 2-25 as Ives were dismissed for 152.

George Leech (18) batted gamely for Ely after both openers were dismissed cheaply, with Mark Higginson (16) also hanging around.

Veteran Deas led the counter-attack superbly, however, as he hit 44 with some excellent support from number nine Steve Bone (18).

Unfortunately for Ely, they simply ran out of batsmen as Waters picked up the last of his four wickets to leave Ely four runs short of their target.

LITTLEPORT’S dominance of this league continued as they swept to a seven-wicket win over Soham at the village’s leisure centre ground.

Soham opened the batting and made a reasonable fist of things, reaching 149 before they were bowled out. Port’s Chris Farnell led the bowling, picking up 4-18, while Nik Marsh weighed in with 4-24.

After losing a couple of early wickets, Port regrouped, led by Andy Race, and cantered their way to victory. Reaching their target with 13 overs to spare and seven wickets in hand. Race made an undefeated 70.

CCA Junior Division 6N

SUTTON II eased to a 43-run win over Cambs Kerala at the weekend.

Batting first, Sutton openers Andy Bowles (18) and Robert Braybrooke (29) made an excellent start for the home side.

Numbers three and four, Craig Faux (15) and Ren Barnard (22) then kept the momentum going as Sutton made hay in the sunshine. A swashbuckling cameo from Tim Philips (15*) late on helped push the hosts on to 146 at the close.

Uncle and nephew combo Steve (2-13) and Nick Northrop (2-20) were again in form with the ball as the pair picked up some key early wickets.

Aided by Barnard (2-14), Sutton’s bowlers were able to keep the pressure on Kerala, who were held to 103-9 at the close of the innings.

TOM Hancock’s third successive half-century led the way for Fordham III as the opener made 52 with the assistance of Richard Mayo(26) and George Bye (16) in his sides’ total of 183.

Cambourne began well but wickets then fell at regular intervals and with the introduction of Ron Howard (4-26), the visitors fate was sealed as they were bowled out for 136.

A YOUNG Wilburton II side went down by four wickets against Hilton on Saturday.

Batting first, Wilburton’s Matthew Morton (16) and Ryan Maiton (13) scored well early on but it was left to Colin Sizer (41) to score the bulk of the runs as Wilburton were dismissed for 111. Their total was boosted by a considerable haul of extras, 33 in total.

Richard Padmore bowled superbly to take three wickets for no runs in four tight overs for Wilburton. Matthew Morton chipped in with 2-30 and Spencer Saberton took 1-22 but it wasn’t enough as Hilton reached 115 with wickets in hand. Simon Kidney top-scored with an undefeated 47.
