A DISSAPOINTING second-half performance from Soham saw them surrender the game to a clinical Chesham United side on Saturday.

United notched three goals in a damaging second 45 for Soham that saw them squander a good opportunity to notch up their third successive win.

The loss sees Ian Benjamin's men remain in 16th place in the Zameretto League Division One ahead of their trip to Atherstone on Tuesday.

It was the visitors who took the lead after 27 minutes through Chris Bangura, who finished well from close range.

The Greens responded well to the setback however, and parity was restored just two minutes later as Dubi Ogbonna slotted home a penalty after a clear handball from Chesham's Danny Talbot.

There were ugly scenes moments before half-time as a late challenge on Soham custodian Ian Pledger, caused considerable ire among the players, several of whom were involved in a fracas inside the home penalty box.

When the dust settled, both Pledger and Chesham's Darrell Cox were dismissed by the referee, with Greens' captain Scott Johnson forced to don the gloves for the second-half.

Despite some early pressure from Soham in the second-half, the visitors were soon in control and moved into the lead through Steve Wales.

The goal proved a hammer-blow for the Greens and Chesham kicked on, notching a further two goals before the end.
