A CONTROVERSIAL goal caused Soham to suffer their first defeat of the season, at Needham Market on Tuesday night.
Soham dominated much of the possession but the home side, playing with two pacey wingers and a lone striker, created problems on the break.
The goal came mid-way through the second-half when the flag stayed down, despite a Needham striker looking off-side, and the ball was played into the six-yard-box and finished off with a header.
Soham manager Ian Benjamin said: "They are a decent side, and I still see that we have a great chance of winning the title this year. We were missing a few players due to injuries and holidays, but still put in a very good performance; if it hadn't been for their 'keeper, who was in great form, we would have scored two or three."
Soham's next game, on Saturday, is away to Stowmarket Town in the FA Cup.
