THE long awaited clash between Ely City and Soham Town Rangers will finally get under way tonight as the two rivals battle it out for a spot in the semi-final of the Cambs Cup.

The derby match has set pulses racing since the draw was first made back in December but numerous delays, including the now infamous Ely-Shelford saga, caused the tie to be pushed back on several occasions.

Save for a last minute deluge though, the tie will go ahead tonight with both teams expected to come out firing despite the pressing priority of ensuring safety in league football.

Speaking in the wake of Soham's draw with Marlow at the weekend, boss Ian Benjamin, said: "We will be giving the game our full attention there is no doubt about that. We lost once to Ely this season and we have no plans to give them an easy ride."

The winner of tonight's quarter-final will be rewarded with a trip to Cambridge City in the semi-final which is set to take place on March 3.
