SCOTT Johnson's second-half goal proved decisive as Soham missed a glut of chances but still took all three points at Julius Martin Lane on Saturday.

Johnson followed up a Steve Bugg free-kick to secure the win for Ian Benjamin's side, but the truth is they should have won far more convincingly.

Simon Flanz missed an open goal after three minutes, while Tom Benjamin and Bugg also spurned chances before Andy Furnell put Soham ahead after 27 minutes.

He latched on to a Bugg flick-on and calmly lobbed the advancing keeper to give Soham the lead.

The home side suffered a shock on the stroke of half-time when Norwich equalised, but Johnson's goal after 67 minutes was enough to complete the win.

Manager Benjamin said: "They made it very difficult for us but we made it difficult for ourselves by missing so many gilt-edged chances in the first half.

"But we started well after the break and, although we've been guilty of letting missed chances cost us in the past, it didn't happen on Saturday.

"In the end, Norwich were chasing the ball and I was pleased with the response of my players."

A CONTENTIOUS refereeing decision cost 'Hall two points as Dereham notched an equaliser three minutes from time.

As a Dereham player struggled with injury in the box, Mildenhall were told to give the ball back to the opposition keeper rather than contest a drop-ball. From the resulting move, Dereham scored.

'Hall had taken the lead after 25 minutes, a spectacular Neal Docking strike giving them the advantage.

Dereham equalised 10 minutes later but, five minutes before the break, Tom English's long-range effort found the top corner to restore the lead.

'Hall looked to be taking all three points until the referee's decision changed the game.

'Hall assistant manager Ricky Cornish said: "I don't like to moan about referees but the decision he made was embarrassing.

"I felt we put in an adequate enough performance to win the game.

"We'd like to have picked up all three points but we've got enough games left to make sure we finish in the top six.

"If we could pick up more points than we had last season (73) then that would be terrific.
