Ely & District/B&T Motor Repairs Club tackled a handful of on and off road challenges – and blisteringly hot weather – last weekend.

Saturday saw Phillip Gosling, Darren Bennett and Derek Ricketts take on the Lea Valley CC 25, with Gosling recording the trio’s fastest time in 53 minutes and 48 seconds.

Bennett finished is first Open TT since recovering from injury in 55:32, and Ricketts crossed the line in 55:46.

Local cyclists were also in action at the King’s Lynn CC 25 the following day, where Robert Golding crossed the line in the fastest club time of 57:54. Rory Havis finished in 59:29, while Martin Holmes overcame a puncture to cross the line in 1:02:32.

Gerd Ellsmore also suffered a puncture but finished in 1:11:41, and Alison Holmes finished shortly after in 1:13:41.

A busy Sunday also saw members tackle the third round of the Mud, Sweat & Gears Series in Henham Park, Suffolk.

In the Under 12s race, Charlie Fleet took 12th place while his father, Gary, finished in 50th in the Open Male race.

There was an eighth-place finish for Francesca Rust in the Open Female race and Gordon Hollingworth, Phil Peacock and Paul Harbison took 37th, 13th and 27th places respectively in the Grant Vets race.

Matt Eley was the club’s top performer with a second-place finish in the Sport Male race, while Mikie Burrwell crossed the line in 20th in the same race.

The Ely cyclists rounded off a weekend of success with first place in the Diss & District CC 2 Up 25-mile TT, with Robert Golding and Rory Havis combining to take the victory.
