ELY & District Cycling Club kicked their season off last week with a challenging eight mile race around Mepal and Witcham.

25 eager racers turned up at the start of the popular Mepal course with the plaudits going to Jason Nixon who steamed around the course in a barnstorming 18mins 19seconds, some 10 seconds ahead of his nearest competitor, Alan Newark.

New rider Lee Desborough completed the podium positions with a strong run which brought him home in 19 minutes flat.

The next event for the club will be on April 14 at 18:45 for a 13 mile circuit through Little Downham and Coveney. Riders should meet at least 15 minutes before the start time for signing on at the Ely Rugby Club car park.

If you would like to come along to try out your legs, everyone is welcome. New club rules mean a working back light is essential. For more information take a look at elycyclingclub.com or email marc@artworld3.fsnet.co.uk
