CRUSADERS returned to winning ways, thanks to a dramatic late winner.

Ely defended well under some heavy Sutton pressure but trailed 2-0 at the end of the first quarter. However, with the wind behind them, Crusaders drew level courtesy of two James Barrett goals.

Sutton regained the lead but Ely improved and hit back with a long-range thunderbolt from Lewis Hook.

With both teams tiring Ely clinched victory when an Alex Brown corner somehow evaded the Sutton keeper and found the back of the net.

A MUDDY pitch proved difficult for Stretham on Saturday and they suffered their first defeat of the season.

The Sporting goal came from Harry Alexander and keeper Kieran Penny put in a man of the match performance.

Newmarket Town 2 Ely Crusaders A 3

CRUSADERS faced their toughest opponents of the season so far and it was Newmarket who broke the deadlock through Sammy Starkey's goal.

In an end-to-end first half, Ely eventually equalised when substitute Luke Brown slotted home.

Crusaders took the lead in the second half thanks to a fine finish from Ryan Dean, but Newmarket hit back with Josh Parnell's equaliser.

The game hung in the balance until the final whistle but it was Ely who took the points with Brown's 19th goal of the season.

Haddenham Rover Colts A 7

DESPITE a bright start from the B side in this local derby, the Colts A team weathered the storm and opened the scoring through John Falconer.

The lead was doubled thanks to Oliver Holden's goal and Alex Lowe made it 3-0 before Falconer netted his second of the match.

The B squad created a couple of good chances but their opponents hit back with goals from James Beary, Jo Snooks and a second for Holden.

The B team's man of the match went to Chris Threadgold.

LITTLEPORT produced a great first half performance that gave them a 3-0 half time lead thanks to a brace from Colt Harvey and another from Ryan Bamber.

Tigers bounced back in the second half and got back to 3-2, but the home side responded with a goal from substitute Jordan Pendall and a hat-trick strike from Harvey.

IT WAS another good win for 'Port who opened the scoring with a fine individual goal from Joseph Murfitt. Charlie Bowditch soon made it 2-0 and, although the home side missed a penalty, Murfitt struck his second goal to make it 3-0.

Ely Crusaders 4 Brampton 2

CRUSADERS put in a very good performance to beat their opponents from the A league and progress to the next round of the Cambs Colts League under-13 Cup.

They dominated the first half and went ahead through Alpha Balde before Luke Hayes scored to double the lead early in the second half.

Brampton were stung into action and reduced the deficit but Ely restored their two-goal lead with a strike from man of the match Cameron Robb. Hayes netted his second to make it 4-1 before Brampton scored a late consolation.

IT WAS not Colts' best performance of the

season - but they still took the points.

Elliot Drewery's strike was the only goal in the first half but when Drewery headed home after the break, Soham went on to control the game.

Joel Frey and a brace from Ryan Brook completed a good win for Soham. Defender Simon Murfitt won the Colts' man of the match award.

DESPITE fielding just nine players and facing a strong unbeaten Royston side, Witchford matched their opponents in the early stages of their Under-15 Cup match.

However, Witchford tired and the home side took advantage to score twice in the first half and add a third after the break.

With the score at 3-0, the weather turned and resulted in the match being abandoned.

FOLLOWING an even start to the match, Ely went ahead in the 20th minute when Tom Padmore converted a penalty.

However, Girton pounced on a goalkeeping error to level the scores just before the break.

Girton went on to dominate the second half and they scored the winner 10 minutes from time. Crusaders worked hard to get back in the match but they ran out of time.
