A knock of 142 from Thomas Jagot wasn’t enough to prevent Burwell falling to a six-wicket defeat in the East Anglian Cricket League last weekend.

Jagot’s excellent haul, 66 from Joseph Tetley and Ben Seabrook’s 48 fired Burwell to 295 in their clash with Cambridge Granta, but the city side eclipsed their target – losing only four wickets – thanks to Doug Rice’s century.

In the Cambs League, Fordham went down by six wickets at Fulbourn Institute after making a reasonable score in their Senior Divison One encounter.

The hosts’ Chris Kindred, who smacked an unbeaten 107, destroyed Fordham’s hopes of a third consecutive league victory last Saturday.

Fordham made 228-5 with six batsman making useful contributions; Alex Theobald (47no), Gav Harding (43), Matt Foulds (37), Gareth Summerskill (34), Tom Williams (30) and George Darling (27).

Darling also took 2-52 but the hosts were guided to victory by their centurion.

Fordham 2nds went down by the same margin in their Senior Division Three meeting with City of Ely - but it could have been different but for a controversial decision from the umpire.

Chris Rule (34), Josh Pope (22) and Luke Bowers (16) were the main run makers in Fordham’s 141, with Ely’s Paul Henman taking 3-28.

Ely were 19-2 when they had another player caught but the umpire called a no ball. A dropped catch followed and Fordham gave away 20 runs in the next over to hand Ely the victory.

In the same division, Wilburton lost their match at league leaders Royston by two wickets.

Jake Alsop and Conor Logan added 47 as the local lads reached 57-3, before the former was dismissed at 68-5.

Ben Shipp then chipped in with 35 before Wilburton crumbled, losing six wickets for 62 runs. Matt Morton and Marcus Brook then came in to make the score more respectable at 162 with 35 for the final wicket.

Logan and Ollie Sellars then helped reduce Royston to 30-3 after nine overs, but Paul Miller and Rob Gill steadied the ship to see their side to 93-5.

And despite seven of Wilburton’s bowlers trying their best to dismiss the league-toppers, Royston ran out winners in the 36th over.

Sutton continue to top the Junior Division One North standings thanks to a 49 run success over Isleham, which featured an innings of 104 from Michael Grady, but Littleport’s woes look set to stay after they were on the end of a nine-wicket hammering by Girton.

Little Downham were defeated by Wisbech Town 3rds in the division below, while City of Ely 2nds made short work of Witcham in the Junior Three North, winning by five wickets.
