Burwell ended their three-match wait for a win in the East Anglian Premier League by seeing off Bury St Edmunds by four wickets last Saturday.

Some impressive bowling from Joshua Vowden (3-38) and Ayden Brown (3-45) helped reduce the Suffolk hosts to 188, before Thomas Jagot cracked a half century – including six fours – to send his side on the path to victory.

His 57 was supported well by 32 from Bea Seabrook and Henry James’ 39.

In the Cambs Senior Division One, Fordham were made to pay for fielding a weakened team by going down by 47 runs to Foxton 2nds.

With Fordham short of regular bowlers, Foxton took full advantage and were able to chalk up 166-7 after recovering from 97-6.

In reply, Fordham slumped to 26-4 and despite a fine 48 from Sam Buck, the hosts succumbed to 119 all out. Fordham host Wisbech 2nds this Saturday.

And in the Senior Division Three, a major innings from a Great Chishall batsman decided their match with Fordham 2nds.

Angus Gent survived being dropped on seven and 70 to whack a superb 149 in his side’s 257.

Fordham’s batsmen failed to get anywhere near Gent’s tally and Adam Cornwell top-scored with 34 as the visitors reached 185-8 at the close, 72 runs shy of their target.

Wilburton were also on the losing side in the same division, going down to league leaders Newport by just eight runs.

James White (45) and James Hill (55) helped Newport soar to 229-8, but Lee Newton’s excellent 90 gave Wilburton a fighting chance of taking the points.

Conor Logan and Ben Shipp added another 71 between them but the East Cambs lads fell agonisingly short.

And to complete a sorry set of fixtures for the local sides, the City of Ely were sent to a 91-run defeat to Royston.

Peter Liddle took 2-38 as Royston reached 232-6, before Ely’s Jonny Wallace hit a fine 84 in his side’s response.

However, only one of his felloe batsmen were able to find double figures – Harvey Cook with 12 – as Ely slumped to 141 all out.
