WICKEN Cricket Club continued their programme of Sunday friendly games with a comfortable six-wicket win over Chrishall.
The home side won the toss and elected to bat on a strip which proved to be fairly lively but fine spells of bowling from Simon Murfitt (3-15) and Chris Branch, restricted the start of the Chrishall innings to just a few runs per over.
The pressure continued as Alex French returned figures of 5-4 from his eight overs which added to a run out and a wicket for Wicken debutant Alan Firmin.
Regular openers Josh Pope (41) and Ben Green (24) wasted no time in getting stuck into the target but a flurry of three wickets for a dozen runs at the 65 mark gave a bit of hope to Chrishall and put a bit of doubt in the minds of the Wicken batsmen. The loss of one more wicket, Rob Jones for 17, brought in Alan Firmin (16*) who capped his first game by hitting the winning runs.
