MEPAL went behind early on as Witchford looked to impose themselves on the match.

Strong passing play gave Witchford their second goal minutes after their initial breakthrough. Determined play from Mepal saw Elliot Martin get his side back into the game.

A strong start to the second half by Ben Topping setup Leon Knightley for the equaliser and Tom Goodjohn then pulled Mepal ahead with a goal created from good possession. Witchford rallied though, and soon equalised. Great saves by Aaron Makinson denied two further Witchford attempts.

Strong defending from Witchford denied a great attempt on goal from Jon Collins and the home side then pulled level once more.

Excellent passing and a great finish from Goodjohn gave Mepal the winning goal late on.

Junior Cup Final

Lakenheath 4

Littleport 1

IN the early stages of the game neither team seemed to quite find their feet defensively.

As the game progressed, Port began to get a foothold in the game - putting on pressure. Tommy Jenkins - the Port winger, nearly threaded through Luke Mansfield for the opening goal but the opponents held firm defensively.

Against the run of play, Lakenheath showed their class and scored on 26 minutes.

Just minutes later, Sylvain had the ball in the net and he thought he'd got the equaliser but the linesman flagged for offside.

Littleport had fire in their bellies after the half-time break and some great work from Lewis Beeton set up Mansfield for the equaliser.

Port went in search of a winner and Harvey smashed in a free-kick from distance that the keeper palmed onto the post.

Despite the threat of Littleport, Lakenheath grew more into the game and created more.

Littleport hearts were broken after the Lakenheath striker rounded the keeper and passed the ball into an empty net. Out of nowhere, a hoof from near the touchline went in over Jordan Mitchell's head.

Lakenheath rounded off the result with a fourth goal towards the end.

Whittlesford Warriors 2

Witchford Colts 5

A LACKLUSTRE first half display saw Colts 1-0 down at half-time and staring at a fifth league defeat in seven games.

The second half started better and they should have been level within the first minute when Ben Lymer was played through only to see the keeper toe his shot round the post.

Witchford started to string some passes together and realised they had the beating of the opposition, and when Jack Curtis played a low cross to the far post, Joe Leyland was able to stab home.

Witchford then lost their way again and some naive defending let Whittlesford in to lob the keeper and regain the lead. Eventually this seemed to be the spur that Witchford needed as they upped the pace and started again to put some passes together.

A similar move to the first goal saw Joe Leyland equalize again at the far post, before Callum Munden then scored a solo effort after a good run down the right. Joe Leyland completed his hattrick as he robbed the defender a crashed the ball past the keeper, and then the best move of the game following five passes saw Witchford progress half the length of the field before Lymer played in Leyland to smash home his fourth and Witchford's fifth.

Littleport Town 4

Soham Town Colts 0

PORT eventually took the lead when a shot from Will Crisp went through the keeper's hands midway through the first half.

Soham then played the better football but the Port defence stood firm as they have all season. The second half saw the home team hang on for the first 15 minutes, but Port gave themselves breathing space when Tom Beresford tapped in from close range.

The home team's confidence grew and they started to play some good football Carl Lightfoot finished well from the edge of the box and Beresford made it four near the end.

This win confirmed Port's position as runners up and their third consecutive promotion, next season Port will be playing in the A-league.
