SOHAM opened the scoring early on despite a bright start from Mepal and some neat dribbling saw them double their advantage.

A carefully placed shot just passed through the outstretched hands of Aaron Makinson to make the score 3-0. Constant pressure from Soham brought some good defending and good goalkeeping from Mepal.

The second half started with Soham attacking. Good skill from Ben Blackburn put the ball through to Tom Goodjohn who nearly scored. Good defending from Ben Topping kept Soham's attack at bay. Both Blackburn and Goodjohn rattled the posts in a period of sustained pressure.

A corner led to Elliot Martin scoring a well deserved Mepal goal. Soham replied almost instantly with a goal to make the score 4-1.

Sam Jarvis made a great save from a Soham corner under continuous attack. Soham's fifth goal came from a long range shot into the bottom right hand corner. A cross from Josh Booy-Howlett deflected off a Soham player to give Mepal their second goal.

Walpole Warriors 1

Ely Crusaders 11

ELY continued their unbeaten league campaign as they recorded another double digit win at Walpole Warriors.

Crusaders dominated the possession throughout as they stretched the Warriors defence, making the most of an expansive playing surface to pass the ball around with some style.

James Barrett was the Ely player to eventually open the scoring and was quick to follow with a second as he fired in from the edged of the penalty area. Ely moved three ahead when Jacob Waters precise volley supplied the perfect finish for Jay Spittle's pin-point cross. Lewis Hook then demonstrated his versatility as he claimed a brace with both left and right foot finishes and Crusaders went into the break six ahead as Edward Frodsham's powerful drive comprehensively beat the Walpole keeper.

Much to their credit Warriors claimed the first goal of the second half with an excellent strike, giving Ely goalkeeper George Leech no chance, however Crusaders responded immediately as Sam Felton intelligently followed up the keepers parry to finish from close range. Barrett completed his hat-trick by calmly slotting home and a Walpole own goal extended Ely's lead even further. Frodsham's second of the match, courtesy of Anthony Riches fine dribble and pass, put Ely into double figures and his normal defensive partner, Jake Butler, deservedly completed the Crusaders scoring to round off the win.

Witchford 7

AFTER an even opening period Davie Thompson slotted the ball home to give Witchford the lead.

Louis Green scrambled the ball home for the second and Oliver Jarrett found space to convert the third. Unselfish play from Charlie O'Connor set Davie Thompson up to slam the ball home to give a 4-0 half time lead.

Witchford started the second half well with a superb strike from Matt Ashman. After a number of near misses Thompson completed his hattrick. Histon grabbed a couple of consolation goals at the end, between which Matt Ashman tapped in Witchford's seventh.

Over Sporting 4

UNITED soon got into their stride with lots of possession and good efforts on goal from Kieran Fitchett, Ross Grant-Royall and Thomas Griffin, but a combination of near misses and good work from the Over keeper kept the home side out.

Against the run of play Over scored the opener. Isleham hit back with a cracking long shot from Ross Grant-Royall. Over replied just before the half time whistle.

After the break Over made a brisk attack and added another. Isleham linked well and were rewarded when a super cross from Jonno Threadgold was tapped in by Grant-Royall to make it 3-2. The hosts came close to equalising through Kieran Fitchett whose shot struck the woodwork. Over broke through to score their fourth.

WITCHFORD finished a hectic schedule of four games in seven days with a maximum 12-point haul following victories at Sawston, Burwell, Thurlow and Willingham.

Four goals from Adam Redditt together with strikes from David Mayle, Spencer Saberton and Tommy Corlito did for Sawston in a 7-0 win on Sunday (May 2). The following Tuesday (May 4) goals from Mayle, Nat Seung Arun and an own goal completed a 3-1 win over Burwell. Two days later and a 4-2 over Willingham win kept colts in the championship hunt. Adam Redditt (2), Saberton and Corlito scored for Witchford. On Sunday, colts completed a winning week with a 4-1 win over Thurlow. Redditt (3) and a Corlito penalty made certain the win.

Witchford 1

Hardwick 4

WITCHFORD paid the price for failing to get to grips with the physical game of their opponents from the start and soon found themselves 3-0 down.

To their credit, the home team got their passing game going and for long spells of the game looked to be in charge. James Edwards managed to prod the ball home and suddenly Witchford were back in the game. Will Fuller's runs down the right caused Hardwick all sorts of problems and only superb goalkeeping stopped Will and Roly Dickinson from narrowing the lead. The defence coped well with the Hardwick attack and it was only an unfortunate mix up that gave Hardwick the chance to increase their lead.

Huntingdon Town 1

Youth Championship Play Off Semi-Final

COMING into the game, Huntingdon's record was the only one to shadow the Green's impressive run with only one defeat in their league all season.

Soham came out firing and looked to establish themselves on the game with some impressive attacking play.

Keiran Wingfield and Dan Sterna on the wings looked to cause all sorts of problems as both teed up Jordan Alexander for chances. The back line of Soham impressed too, winning aerial battles as Hunts looked to counter long. It became a balanced encounter as both teams cancelled one another out, but Huntingdon took the lead after a throw in was flicked on and their forward hit home from 15 yards.

Soham instantly looked to get back on terms, Sterna, Alexander and Sam Cook all coming close. Alexander and Wingfield drew good stops from the Huntingdon keeper and Soham's Matt Phillips had to be sharp to keep out Hunts as half-time came. Second half started like the first, Soham looking to attack their counterparts. Wingfield again threatened on the wing, his cross evading Alexander and Cook and Sterna drove wide. Huntingdon kept an aggressive stance, having several booked for ill discipline as Soham were turning the tide in chances and play frustrating the away side. Gibson sent on Wills for a cameo roll in the attack as the Greens filled the Huntingdon box, as Davis looked to deliver. His delivery eventually found Alexander whose header looked to creep in, but the keeper managed to get there to make the save.
