THE Year 3/4 boys' football team from Robert Arkenstall beat off tough competition to triumph in an inter-schools football tournament.

The team put in a sterling performance to take victory in the tournament, run by Witchford Village College, scoring 21 goals and conceding only one in the six games that they played.

The team beat stiff competition from Rackham School, Stretham, Little Thetford, Wilburton, and Mepal & Witcham and Sutton.

Under 10s

Haddenham Rovers Colts 12

Stretham Sporting B 0

ROVERS produced another dominant display of football against a much improved Stretham Sporting B.

Haddenham took the lead on six minutes when Josh Lowe tucked in Kieran Petty's cross. Lowe then turned provider with Matt Bery slid home. Lowe made it 3 - 0 with a volley that eluded the keeper, before Oliver Johnson scored his first Rover's goal. Charlie Tunnell moved into the centre forward role and immediately scored with a right foot finish to make it 5 - 0. Matt Wright struck a fierce angled shot to make it 6 - 0, Nick Threadgold showed great anticipation to slide home the 7th, before Wright struck three more rasping shots to complete his hat-trick. Jake Alsop Josh Lowe completed the scoring late on.

Witchford Colts 0

CRUSADERS overcame Witchford for the second time in a week and again with the added bonus of another clean-sheet.

Crusaders had the best possible start as Alex Brown's clinical finish, following Leeches excellent pass, gave the home team an early advantage.

When Jay Spittles' sweeping cross-field pass picked out Brown at the back post the left midfielders fine drive quickly increased the Ely lead.

The second period proved a much more even affair but James Barrett made the game safe as he turned and fired low into the corner to secure the 3-0 win.

THE Year 4/5 team from the Robert Arkenstall Primary School were celebrating after beating Kingsfield School 6-1 in the Primary School Cup.

Matthew Wright fired home from distance to give Arkenstall the lead. The lead was doubled soon after when Joshua Akinwumi netted his first of the day.

Wright got his second goal of the match from the penalty spot and the team found themselves three goals ahead at the half.

Arkenstall ploughed ahead in the second half and some neat play brought two more goals from Akinwumi with a Jake Alsop free kick completing the rout.

Under 11s

Ely Crusaders 2

Haverhill 1

CRUSADERS finally overcame their nemesis Haverhill after having lost to them on penalties on the last two occasions.

The breakthrough finally came mid way through the second half after some excellent play from the midfielders which was finished by Max Wright. Haverhill equalised shortly thereafter but Ely's Edward Kratz bagged the winner with minutes to go securing Crusaders a well deserved win.

THE girl's team from Robert Arkenstall battled hard to secure second place in an inter-schools football tournament.

The team picked up wins over Rackham and Sutton on their way to second-spot with their only loss coming against eventual winners, Stretham.

Witchford Colts A 4

Burwell Swallows 1

WITCHFORD were quick off at the whistle with some great play despite the poor weather conditions.

An excellent corner and a deflection off a Burwell player gave Witchford the lead at half time. The second-half continued with more chances and led to goals by Nathan Francis, Ruairidh MacDonald and a great run and goal by Euan Gilmour finished the day with another deserving win for the team.

Under 12s

Ely Crusaders 3

Newmarket B 3.

ELY got off to a storming start with Charlie Root putting them ahead on just four minutes.

Ely doubled their lead on 19 minutes, when Dominic Hunt threaded a ball through the middle and Luke Brown ran on to chip the keeper.

Crusaders made an equally blistering start to the second half and Elliot Littlefield, volleyed home for 3-0.

As the game wore on, 10-man Ely were tiring and in the middle of the second half they suffered a chaotic five minutes where the visitors scored three times.

Under 16s

Soham Town Colts 3

Hemingford Colts 2

THE match promised to be a close encounter after a non scoring stalemate earlier in the season.

The away side opened the scoring 15 minutes in when the Hemingford centre forward chipped the oncoming keeper. Soham's Ryan Collins drew the score level after he smashed the ball into the roof of the net on the half hour mark.

Soham continued to dictate play early in the second half and with 15 minutes to go a long throw was headed home by a Hemingford defender to give Soham the lead. Hemingford came back to level after some slack defending allowed them to head home.

A tense finish saw Soham come through as a Hemingford defender headed the ball past his own keeper.

Under 17s

Girton Colts 0

Ely Crusaders 3

ELY had to wait for extra time top break the deadlock when and within the first an excellent cross from Bartlett found Bailey who rattled the back of the net.

Ely controlled the play thereafter and a great pass from Moyes out wide to Wilkinson ended with Bartlett heading home to lengthen the lead.

Girton went on the attack to try and get back into the game but Ely's berth in the final was secured by Cowlan who finish clinically.
