HADDENHAM opened their season with a hard fought victory over a resiliant Newmarket Town.

Newmarket started stronger but Haddenham took the lead against the run of play when Kieran Petty's scored. Petty then made it 2-0 when he lashed in a corner from eight yards. Newmarket pulled a goal back when Rovers failed to clear but the two goal advantage was re-established on 20 minutes when captain Jake Alsop found Matthew Wright who struck a precise shot past the keeper. Haddenham were again pegged back when the visitors took advantage of some poor defending to strike home a thumping shot to make the score 3-2 just before the break.

The goalless second half saw both teams defend more soundly as they adapted well to this season's larger pitch and Haddenham held on for the win.

Isleham Utd 2 Ely Crusaders 6

ELY Crusaders started their campaign with a solid away win at Isleham.

A nervous start saw Ely concede within the first 60 seconds and struggle to find any fluency until Sam Scarborough shot home to finish Crusaders' first real passing passage of play. The next Ely goal came courtesy of the unfortunate Isleham keeper as he deflected Alex Brown's near post corner into his own net. Ely moved further ahead as Lewis Hook scored but with the half coming to a close Isleham scored their second.

Crusaders stretched away during the second period with goals from Hook and George Leech giving Ely a four goal winning margin.

Littleport 3 Witchford 2

WITCHFORD were unlucky to lose in this close game at Littleport. In a keenly contested first half Witchford enjoyed greater possession but found themselves 2-0 at the break.

Witchford's Ben Lymer scored their first goal in the second half then Littleport extended their lead with a third goal similar to the their first two. Witchford rallied and Callum Munden grabbed a second. Witchford chased the equalizer in the dying minutes but could not score and Littleport were the victors.

BOTH teams seemed evenly matched in this fast paced game and the half ended goalless.

Colts and United started the second half determined to break the deadlock and Colts didn't have to wait long when Kieran Fuller scored. United came back but a good save by keeper Connor Cotterill denied them the goal and the game ended 1-0 to the Colts.

Littleport Town 6 Swavesey 4

LITTLEPORT kicked off the season with a hard fought victory away at Swavesey. The home side scored first and it was soon 2-0 to Swavesey. Ryan Bamber pulled one back for Littleport and, just before half time, added a second following a flick through from Ethan Povey.

Swavesey scored first in the second half but Port came back when Bamber completed his hat-trick and Harvey added the fourth and fifth goals. A sixth and final goal for Port was scored by Bamber. At 6-3 Port should have closed the game out but looking for more allowed Swavesey to pull one more back for a final score of 6-4.

NEWLY promoted Port kicked off their season with an emphatic 9-0 victory at home to Hundon Hawks. Port dominated the game from the start, giving the opposition little opportunity to get into the game. Nico Bishop opened the scoring early on and Port never looked back. The second came from a corner headed in by Luke Thompson. Bishop scored again with a shot into the top corner following a good through ball from Charlie Bowditch. Bishop added another before the break. The second half proved to be more of the same with Port dominating and scoring five more, all from an on-form Bishop.

CITY travelled to Somersham hoping their reshaped squad could get the season off with three points. Ely did not have to wait long before top goal scorer from last season Sam Ashman hit the net after 10 minutes. Ryan Lane's scored Ely's second.

City's next two goals came from Amery and then Barber for Ashman to rocket home and put the game and three points well out of Somersham's reach.
