PROMOTION JOY: Hard work, perspiration and fun has earned Ely's first team a place in the First Division of the Cambridge and District Netball League.

Their newly-formed second team narrowly missed out on a place in the Division Four play-offs.

Finishing a creditable fourth, the Seconds were only six points adrift of their division joint winners and four points short of eventual third place.

Team captain Cassie Start praised the whole club, saying: "To have secured promotion in two successive years is fantastic - everyone has given 100 per cent and some great netball has been played.

"To have successfully created two teams able to challenge for the top when the club only came into being in 2003 is beyond all our dreams."

Ely, in finishing top of Division Two, won all but one league match, notching up 81 points - 11 greater than their nearest rival.

Ely celebrated their success during a night out in the city.

Sue Deas and Sue Everet were awarded prizes for "most valued" player in the first and second teams respectively. Milenca Falciano-Padron and Trina Baldock were given "most improved player" prizes for the same squads.
