LITTLEPORT enjoyed a clean sweep at the weekend with both the first and second teams securing hard-fought victories.
The 1st XI led the way for the club as they secured a five wicket victory over Chatteris. Sent in for a long stint in the field first, Port's bowling attack plugged away admirably given the searing heat, and enjoyed a fair amount of success.
P Morris led the way for the home side, with his electric pace securing him 4-31 from his 12 overs and ensuring that the visitors were dismissed for a more than chase-able 143.
Needing a little more than three an over for victory, Port's Terry Stone rose to the fore and his knock of 40, helped smooth the path to a convincing victory for the home side.
The 2nd XI meanwhile, held firm to pip Ely II to the post in a thrilling encounter at the Paradise Ground.
Ely took to the crease first and were guided to a decent enough total of 154 thanks to the herculean efforts of M Sellers who smashed his way to a superb knock of 104. Doug Marsh was the pick of the Port bowlers as ever, collecting 3-32 from his 10 over spell.
Port's reply with the bat was a fragmented one as Ely, led by Oliver Swan-Taylor (5-32), took regular wickets. Much the same as Ely though, Port were guided by the efforts of a single batsmen in the shape of A Buxton, whose knock of 75 put the home side firmly on the road to victory.
