SOHAM Town Rangers manager Ian Benjamin is set to reveal a new signing in Saturday s friendly match at Sleaford Town. Former Boston United mid-fielder Nick Reeson is set to make his debut for Rangers after signing for the club this week. And with the sign

THERE were several new faces in the Ely City team that suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Arlesey Town on Saturday but manager Dennis Lightning is still chasing more signings.

Jamie Allsop, from Ipswich Wanderers, Lee Pacey and Lee James, both from Great Shelford, former Newmarket player Mark Kirby and Dave Daniels, from Bedford Town, have all switched to Ely.

But Lightning hasn't stopped there. He said: "I still think we need a couple of players. Another defender certainly and one or maybe two midfielders."

Reflecting on the defeat to Arlesey Town, the Ely boss added: "We knew it was going to be a tough game and that is how it worked out.

"They are three leagues above us and they gave us the run-around in the first half so it was no surprise that we trailed 3-0 at the break.

"But it was a good work-out and preparation for a tough season ahead."

Ely will entertain King's Lynn on Saturday and Lightning intends to use the game to find his best starting eleven before Tuesday's Doug Unwin Memorial Trophy match against Soham Town Rangers.

He said: "After Saturday I will have a much better idea of the best team and they will start every match from then on."

Lightning remains confident that Andy Chatters will remain with the team. He said: "Andy has assured me he will be staying with the club and so I am assuming he will sign for us in the very near future."

SOHAM Town Rangers manager Ian Benjamin is set to reveal a new signing in Saturday's friendly match at Sleaford Town.

Former Boston United mid-fielder Nick Reeson is set to make his debut for Rangers after signing for the club this week.

And with the signing of goalkeeper Ian Pledger now confirmed, Benjamin believes that his dealings in the transfer market are now complete. He said: "I don't intend to make any more signings and I am happy with the squad I have in place.

"I am impressed with Nick Reeson's attitude and he has a lot of experience and is versatile enough to play in midfield or at left back."

Rangers have shown good pre-season form and they go into the Sleaford match on the back of a 3-1 victory at St Neots on Tuesday evening.

A goal from Scott Carter abd a brace from Darren Jimson sealed a good win.

Benjamin has also been encouraged by a 2-1 victory over UCL Premier champions Deeping Rangers and the 5-0 win over Littleport Town to retain the Mick North Trophy.

New signings Martin McNeil, Darren Jimson and Jamie Langley all played their parts in the matches.

"I am pleased with the new players and they have gelled with the squad really well."

But there has also been some unwelcome news for Benjamin. Skipper Peter Hinde sustained a calf injury during training and the Soham boss is unsure how serious the injury is.

Benjamin said: "He could be out for a couple of weeks or maybe longer. At the moment it is impossible to tell.

"These things happen in football and we will not be rushing Peter back into action."

Paul Jones will miss Saturday's match with a rib injury, but James Langley should recover from a knock picked up in the Deeping game.

# MILDENHALL Town manager Trevor Munns has also received a boost from new transfers and good pre-season performances.

Town were in action last night when they lost 3-1 to Histon Reserves and the game is the latest against higher-league opposition.

Former Histon Reserves midfielder Daniel Black has signed for Mildenhall and got onto the scoresheet as Town came back from 2-0 down at half-time to draw 2-2 with Bury Town last week.

Munns thinks that the 21-year-old is a good acquisition for the club. He said: "He is a quality player and I think that he will play a similar role to Niall Inman."

There have been players heading out of the club and Steve Holden has joined Shelford as assistant manager.

Alan North has signed for Diss Town after Munns was unable to guarantee him a starting place.

Munns said: "Alan knew the situation I was in and he understands that I could not offer any guarantees but he may be a player who comes back to us in the future."

The pre-season matches have pleased the Mildenhall boss. He said: "The results are meaningless to me. The most important thing is that we have competed well and matched teams who play at levels above us.

"What has also been pleasing is that we have attracted more than 1,200 spectators to our matches so far and that is great news for the club."

There have been new injuries for Munns to consider. Lewis Blois (calf), Ian Salt (ankle) and Joey Abbs (thigh) have all picked up knocks but all should return to action within a couple of weeks.
