STUDENTS from the City of Ely Community College managed to raise £10,000 through a charity walk.

About 50 pupils and staff from the college enjoyed stunning scenery, sprawling coastline and glorious sunshine as they took part in a 40-mile sponsored walk to raise money for the charity Beating Bowel Cancer.

The annual walk is organised by college teacher Damien Whales, and his held to honour the memory of his father Malcolm who was diagnosed with the disease.

The walk, back for its second year, took place in Dorset with the fund raisers walking between Weymouth and Poole along England’s south coast.

Mr Whales said: “It was a fantastic experience, really positive for everyone involved and I think all the students and staff had a good time.

“We had three days of walking along some really beautiful coastline so that was a highlight and everyone who started with us managed to finish as well.”
