Bowls NICK Brett narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot at the World Indoor Bowls Championships last week, losing out to Scotland’s Stewart Anderson.

Brett came into the quarter-final tie on the back of a stirring win over New Zealand qualifier Phil Bennett 9-4, 8-3, but couldn’t force his way into the last four of the competition as he lost out to Anderson, who went on to win the tournament.

City of Ely bowler Brett lost 9-4 in the opening set of the match, held at the Potter’s Leisure Resort, in Norfolk, but rallied superbly to win the second set 7-6, sending the match to a tie break.

Anderson was forced to kill one of the tie-break ends to keep his hopes alive, but in the decisive third end Brett completely lost his way, and the young Scot, who thought he had left the door open with his nearest bowl more than a foot away from the jack, was able to punch the air with delight when Brett came up short.
