RIDGEONS LEAGUE CUP
FIRST ROUND
Ely City 1 Walsham-le-Willows 0
THE Robins put in a superb performance to overcome Ridgeons Premier opposition on Tuesday night.
City dominated from kickoff and were unfortunate to not be ahead at half-time.
Midfielder Mark Johnston had a shot tipped on to the crossbar and striker Robbie Mason forced a good save and shot narrowly wide.
The second half continued in a similar fashion.
Just as the home fans were worried if they would find a breakthrough, centre back Ben Lawrence rose to connect with a corner and thumped a header into the top right corner of the net, giving City a 65th-minute lead.
Ely continued to attack for the remainder of the match with the visitors posing few problems.
Ely boss Dennis Lightning said: "I'm delighted with the performance, the lads were superb. I don't remember them having a single shot."
# In the Ridgeons First Division on Saturday, striker Dave Daniels scrambled home a late goal to rescue a point in a 1-1 home draw with Diss Town.
