CITY of Ely bowler Sarah Seymour booked her place in the semi-finals of the World Indoor Championship after beating New Zealander Desiree Lambert.

Currently the reigning WIBC World Champion, Seymour upset the odds to defeat her experienced opponent in straight sets, 11-2 10-3.

A much anticipated all-Ely semi-final proved a hope too far however, as Seymour's Ely club-mate Ellen Faulkner was beaten by Debbie Stavrou from High Wycombe.

Stavrou threw the gauntlet down to Faulkner early as she romped to a 10-5 first set win, but Faulkner, a two-time champion at the event, steadied the ship and took the second set to force the match into a tie-break.

Faulkner had chances a-plenty in the resulting bowl-off but failed to make them pay and was eventually edged out 2-1 in the best of three tie-break.
