SPEEDY rider Ian Cammish smashed the course record as he won the annual Ely Open Time Trial held at the weekend. Riding for the Planet X team, Cammish came home in 21mins 30secs to take the title ahead of a packed field.

The 10-mile circuit between Mepal and Witchford was tackled by 56 riders, who made the most of the wind on the outward leg to Witchford to register some excellent times.

Top Ely rider was Andy Stephen finishing in 18th position with a time of 25mins 33secs. Young Martyn Scott, aged 15, finished 35th position with an excellent time of 31mins 22secs. Other Ely & District CC riders were 19th Steve Presland (26mins 11secs), 20th Geoff Brewster (26mins 24secs), 21st Ben Harwin (26mins 42secs), 23rd Steve Merry (26mins 53secs), 29th Andy Darley (28mins 38secs), 36th Neil Cook (31mins 27secs) and 38th Celia Whitechurch (31mins 49secs). Top lady was Gillian Reynolds (Willesden Cycling Club) who finished in 27th position in a time of 27mins 31secs.

Eighty-year-old Peter Baumber Cambridge (T&C) CC completed the course in 28mins 19secs (28th position) and won the veterans prize.
