THE British eventing seasn gt underway at the weekend with a tw-day meeting at Isleham held in aid f CLIC Sargent. The traditinal seasn pener, nw in its 17th year, is hsted by Clem Tmpsett, MBE and rganised by Cl Chris Wells and has s far raised £116,000 fr five charities.
The event attracted ver 600 entries, headed by current Team GB rider and Eurpean team gld medal winner Oliver Twnend. Als entered were Team GB squad riders Plly Stcktn and Piggy French.
Saturday's cmpetitins were fr the Pre-nvice and Intr classes running ver seven sectins. There was lcal success in the Open Pre-nvice class with Rystn rider Owen Mre finishing third n Salvatin, a hrse wned by Little Dwnham cuple Tina and Bb Ure. Fllwing the three disciplines Owen was jint secnd n 34.5 pints but a fence dwn in the shw jump drpped him t third. The class was wn by Dminic Ruane riding Cinquieme. The first Isleham Fresh Prduce Intr sectin saw Little Dwnham rider Dr Plly Taylr finish secnd riding her new hrse Secret Passin. They were just ne pint behind sectin winners Gergina Rdwell with M.Mistffelffes III. The ther tw sectins were wn by Sphie Adams n Surely A Crime and Milly Herbert riding Take Yur Pick.
Sunday saw the cmpetitin mve t the Nvice and Intermediate classes run in seven sectins. The first CJ Murfitt Nvice sectin was wn by Piggy French riding Lughshre Cmedy Act, while lcal rising star, Sham rider Fina Jnasn, was ninth. She was having her first cmpetitive uting n her wn hrse, Ardfield Glden, and was happy with a tp 10 place against tp cmpetitin.
The junir sectin had lcal success with Ely rider Pretria Lee and Cambridge rider Isabelle Edmndsn being placed riding Multimedia and Dun Deliberately respectively. The Intermediate-nvice class saw Fina Jnasn in actin again, this time riding Zin Zan Tiger. This was Zin Zan's first event fllwing a lng lay-ff with injury and saw the pair finish a cmpetitive sixth place just six pints behind eventual winner Henry Dve. Event rganiser Cl Chris Wells said the weekend had gne smthly with n prblems while hst Clem Tmpsett MBE had nthing but praise fr the vlunteers that made the event pssible. Mre than £5,000 was raised fr the CLIC Sargent charity.
