Netball City of Ely Junior sides were in action at the Cambridgeshire County Netball Tournament held on Sunday.

The club fielded both an under 14 and an under 16 squad and both teams performed well in the quick fire matches despite two early injuries.

Ely under 14s finished the day fourth out of 10 sides in the age group, behind eventual winners Comberton. Ely missed out on bronze position by just three goals in the third place play-off .

City under 16s meanwhile, had a challenging draw but, despite losing all but one of their matches, gave a creditable performance. Panthers and Rookies came first and second in the age group.

At the end of the tournament, City of Ely under 16 player Sarah McLaughlin was awarded the county ‘Spirit of Netball Award’. Her netball skill, fair play and commitment to her sport and team mates were commended by Jill Harrison, chair of the Cambridgeshire County Netball Association.
