Ely City manager Brady Stone says his players hardly put a foot wrong after they eased to a 2-0 triumph over mid-table rivals Long Melford last Saturday.

Strikes from defender Tom Williams and the impressive Kelvin Enaro either side of half time secured Ely’s fourth win of the season, but the Robins boss believed his side’s performance was worthy of far more goals.

“After the horror show of Tuesday, Saturday was absolutely incredible,” said Stone.

“I’m really delighted with the team all round - it was a proper team performance.

“I asked for a reaction and that’s what I got. If we had have scored 10 I don’t think they could have moaned.”

Stone was also quick to heap the praise on attacker Enaro after he found the net for the second time since arriving at the Unwin in the summer.

“Kelvin was fantastic,” he said.

“He gave their left back a torrid time; I actually felt sorry for him.

“I told the boys to play like we did last year; get the ball down and don’t be afraid to play with it and that’s exactly what they did.

“It was a faultless performance. The boys passed well, pressed well and there was desire and hunger to get on the ball.

“There was no moaning when we lost the ball and there was always another player in support which was brilliant. There were always three or four options when we were on the ball.”

The former Robins boss has now called on his men to kick on from their impressive victory last weekend – starting with success in their fixture with Brantham Athletic in two days’ time.

If Ely can take all three points from their visit to Suffolk, they will go level on points with Brantham in 11th – a far cry from when they were languishing in the relegation places in the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division just a fortnight ago.

Stone said: “We have another important game on Saturday.

“We were looking at the league table after Saturday’s game and saw how tight it was .

“There’s only seven points between us and Felixstowe & Walton in sixth but we need to keep producing performances like Saturday if we’re going to stay up and that is still the aim.

“Some of the lads have never played at this level and with the cup games we have, we’re playing almost 50 games a season so it’s a big ask to keep it going, but I’ve got every faith in the boys.

“We’ve got the FA Vase game coming up so if we can go to Brantham and get a good result then it should set us up well for that.”
