Tyler Goodjohn has set his sights on a third return to the ring – and is determined to do things right this time around.

“I’d actually originally looked at coming back in May,” said Goodjohn.

“But since the Garton fight I’ve had a shoulder injury which needs looking at so I don’t want to rush anything.

“Boxing is just a massive positive in my life. Living right, training properly, eating well, not going out drinking at the weekends – all these things just make my life much more positive and I’ve always been someone that needs something to get up for and look towards.

“It’s a case of once a fighter, always a fighter and I’ll always have that mind-set.”

Goodjohn was beaten on points by Garton in a title showdown on his previous return to the ring - a fight that snapped a nine-month absence - but has admitted that he needs to take things slowly ahead of his next comeback.

“The problem for me is that I have always gone for massive fights but this time around I just need a couple of six or eight rounders to get back into things,” he said.

“I went into the Garton fight thinking that getting a lot of sparring in would be the same as having a fight before, but every boxer knows it doesn’t compare.

“I’d love to get back to the level I was at before but I’m not going to be rushing myself.

“I know the title fights will come around eventually but I definitely need a couple of fights to warm up.”

And despite his potential comeback scrap being over four months away, Goodjohn has already kicked off his training schedule and will make his return in a weight class he feels much more at home in.

“My first fight will be at 11 stone (super welterweight),” he said.

“I had trouble getting down to 10 stone (super lightweight) before but 11 stone will be no problem.

“I’ve been getting up at 5.30am and working until 9pm and training in between. It sounds quite hectic and it is, but I think I’ve found quite a healthy balance.”
