Tyler Goodjohn says he deserves another shot at showcasing his talent in front of the television cameras after claiming his first win in over 18 months.

The Sutton fighter was involved in the fight of the night in Brentwood last Saturday, clinching a narrow points victory over previously unbeaten prospect, Adam Barker, and winning the BPA British Classic Challenge belt.

And while he admitted he wasn’t at his best in the eight-round war, Goodjohn believes that his fights are still entertaining enough to feature on the sport’s top televised bills.

“I’m not overly pleased with my performance,” he said.

“I felt a bit rusty and I was loading up, expecting to blow him away but he was a lot better than I expected.

“I grinded out the win, which was the most important thing. It was a hard fight to take after a year out.

“I don’t know anyone else who is consistently in fights like I am. When I was on TV, everyone who watched knew it would be the best fight and it still is. I’m not the best boxer but I give the best value for money.”

The 26-year-old, who now has 13 wins from 18 fights, is now targeting rediscovering the form that saw him win the English light welterweight title live on Sky in 2014.

“I don’t really care who I fight next; I just want to get back on the fringes of British and international title level,” he said.

“When I was on TV winning titles I showed what I was about and I thought that would skyrocket me onto bigger things but since then it’s all dipped, so I want to get back to that level.

“I’m back in Essex, training with Pete (Sims), back around the promoters and back where the connections are.

“In boxing it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, so hopefully being around the right people will give me that chance.

“I’d like to get back in around October or November time, but the last thing I want to do is keep fighting journeymen.

“If the fight is not going to be financially beneficial then there’s no point in me doing it.”
