ELLEN Falkner played her way to the runner-up spot in the 11th Quadrennial World Outdoor Bowls Championship in New Zealand on Saturday.
Ellen, a member of City of Ely Bowls Club, won eight of her nine group matches and came up against Kiwi Val Smith in the womens' singles final.
She led 8-2 but Smith, roused by her home crowd, won the next seven ends and cruised to a 21-13 victory.
Ellen is still in New Zealand, playing in the pairs with her partner Wendy King. As we went to press, the pair had won six out of their seven matches with three more to play before the competition moves into the finals stage.
