A STRONG display from Haddenham ABC's Matt Blair, earned him an impressive victory at a prestigious boxing event at the weekend.
Dozens of talented young fighters from across the country made the trip to the home of Chatteris ABC for a night of top boxing on Saturday (May 30) with Haddenham's Blair matched up against Steffan Johnson of Whittlesey ABC.
The two fighters gave the ropes a real testing as they went about their work in what was an intensely fought battle. Come the end of an exhaustive encounter though, it was the Haddenhan youngster who was awarded the decision.
There wasn't such good news for Hadenham's Zac Rush however, who narrowly lost on points to Lawrence Manning from Wisbech.
Manning landed some good right hooks in the first round, but Rush came back at pace and found some success in close. To his credit, the Wisbech puncher moved well and used his reach advantage to good effect, eventually scoring the win.
All Comers star, Alfie Smith meanwhile, was denied glory at the Junior ABA Championships after losing out to Samuel Bowen in the final.
Earlier this season, Bowen, nicknamed 'Bullet,' was sound beaten by Alfie Smith in the quarter finals of the NACYP championships but it wasn't to be on this occasion as a rampaging Bowen, a winner inside the opening round in his previous two bouts, took the tie by a score of 14-2 at the final bell.
