POWERHOUSE striker Tom Beech has rejoined Ely City - and brought his teenage brother with him.

Tom, 22, and central midfielder Josh, 18, have both signed from Potton United, who play in the United Counties Premier Division.

Tom played the second half of last season for The Robins and scored 15 goals.

City assistant manager Alan Alsop said: "Tom Beech is a natural goal scorer so it's great to have him back.

"Tom had several offers from higher league clubs and he's been offered a lot of money to play for teams in the London area. But he's been fed up with all the politics involved and he approached us. He's good friends with centre-back Brady Stone and had been telling him how much he enjoyed playing for Ely."

But Alsop admitted that neither he or manager Dennis Lightning have seen Josh Beech play.

He said: "It's undoubtedly a bit of a gamble. But we've received several good reports on the lad and central midfield is a position we needed to strengthen. He's started about a dozen games for Potton which is pretty impressive at his age. He's a big, athletic lad like his brother. He looked good in training as well and he has a wonderful touch. There's a chance that the two of them could start against Diss on Saturday."

n Ely had to settle for a disappointing goalless draw in their Ridgeons League First Division match at Great Yarmouth on Saturday.

City enjoyed large periods of pressure but lacked the killer instinct in front of goal.

Robbie Mason headed over the bar from six yards in the first half and skipper Simon Warren struck the post with a shot through a crowded penalty area in the second.

Alsop said: "It seemed that some of the lads were more interested in enjoying the seaside sunshine and would rather be on the beach than playing football.
