Battling draw for Ely ladies

ELY came from behind to secure a share of the spoils in a six-goal thriller against Shefford and Sandy at the weekend.
Gemma Voutt’s side went a goal down early on following a decisive raid from Shefford, but the set-back seemed to spark the home side into shape, with some good movement and attacking play.
Eventually pressure told and a save from the visiting keeper found its way to Dani Fletcher who lashed home from close range to level.
Moments later, Shefford regained their lead but Ely fought back into the visiting team’s D to win a short corner which was initially saved only for the ever-alert Fletcher to put away the rebound, bringing the teams level once more.
A rousing half-time team-talk from manager Ian Grange’s had its desired effect early in the second half as Ely moved up several gears and began playing their passing game.
Shefford were not to be outdone however, and the visitors once more managed to move into the lead.
The defence, ably marshalled by Fiona Bartley, held firm in the aftermath of Shefford’s third and were well supported by a number of timely saves from Kat Bamber in goal.
Ely’s response was effective and immediate, with Voutt’s throughball finding Jo Rayner, who laid the ball off for Fletcher to fire home her hat-trick. Ely’s next match will see them take on Bourne II on Saturday at EOSA.
