A SUPERLATIVE four-goal haul from Josh Ashman guided Witchford ’96 to an emphatic win over local rivals The Vine at the weekend.

While most matches across the district fell foul of the cold weather, Ashman and co were in red hot form as they consigned the home side to their heaviest defeat this term.

The Vine came into the game on the back of two straight wins against Sutton and Wisbech respectively but their recent form seemed to desert them in the early stages of the match as Witchford powered into the ascendancy.

Ashman plundered his first in the early stages and the goal sparked a veritable riot from Witchford who tore through a struggling home defence.

The visitors Tom Parrish also weighed in with a double to stretch Witchford’s lead after the break and solo strikes from Robbie Scarrow and top scorer Aron Spencer, with his tenth of the season, secured what was an ultimately comfortable win. Substitute Jez Cutter was the only scorer for The Vine in the 84th minute on a desperately sad day for the home side.

The loss sees Jon Cutter’s men slip down into 11th place, having taken just eight points from their 10 league games so far this term.

Witchford meanwhile, continue on their all conquering run this season, making the weekend’s win their eighth from just 10 games this season. They now sit atop BIS Division 2B with 25 points.
