FERVENT boxing fans packed into the Arkenstall Centre on Saturday night for Haddenham Amateur Boxing Club's November show.

Following a hugely successful event earlier in the year, the Haddenham club once again played host to some of the country's finest young boxers with more than 100 local fans turning out in fine voice to support local fighters.

Home favourites Jack Halls and Tyler Goodjohn were the undoubted stars of the show with two superb performances capping a landmark evening for the club.

Zac Rush was first up for Haddenham as he took on Reece Downs from Norwich Diamonds ABC.

In a high octane clash it was Rush who put together the better combinations with his ambition also helping him to a unanimous victory.

Jack Ure was next up for the home club and he started well against Matt Boon from Wisbech ABC.

Ure's technique and work rate belied his age, and he impressed with a positive boxing display. In his drive to stay on the front foot however, Ure found himself caught with some good straight shots.

After an even last round in which both fighters produced a mature display, it was Boon who was awarded the win by majority decision.

Jesse Smith's bout with Repton ABC's Ben Hall unfolded at a furious pace with Haddenham's Smith, keen to get on the front foot.

Despite his commendable endeavour however, Smith was caught on a few occasions while going on the attack and Hall was awarded a majority decision.

Youngster Jack Halls, brought rapturous applause from the home crowd after a clinical boxing display saw him stop Fulbourn and District fighter Joe McDonald.

Halls was ambitious and aggressive from the first bell and his ruthlessly accurate combinations kept McDonald on the defensive.

By the middle of the second round the gulf between the two had become too much and McDonald's corner called an end to the fight.

Home favourite Tom Wilson, came through an exhausting encounter with Whittlesey ABC's Stefan Johnson, scoring a unanimous verdict on the judges scorecards.

In the opening rounds Wilson and Johnson were content to stand and trade punches with both fighters showing remarkable resilience.

It was in the later rounds that Wilson came to the fore however, as a tiring Johnson proved unable to match the technique of his counterpart and allowed a few shots to slip through.

In the showpiece event of the evening, Tyler Goodjohn faced off against Norwich Diamonds ABC's Frank Sictorness.

The fight promised to be a superior display of boxing and so it proved as both fighters wowed the crowd with a superb display of technical boxing.

Though both the fighters showed exceptional skill in defence it was Goodjohn who edged ahead with a cunning mix of straight and body shots.

To his credit Sictorness countered well, landing some notable shots as Goodjohn came in, but ultimately it was the Junior ABA Champion who came through with a polished performance.
