TWO excellent innings shone out in this closely-fought match but Little Downham eventually edged the match.

James Davies' superb 95 helped Madingley recover from 8-2 to reach a score of 187-9. Ian Morgan (27) and Martin Teversham (13) were the other batsmen to reach double figures.

Baker (3-30), Palmer (2-28) and White (2-51) were the best home bowlers.

The home side also began badly and slumped to 13-2 but Heaps smashed 76 not out and with support from Baker (37 not out), Little Downham reached 188-6 in 41 overs.

David Hadaway (2-26) and Michael Naylor (2-48) led the Madingley attack.

Tucker Gardner League Division Two

Fordham v Castor and Ailsworth

Castor and Ailsworth won by two runs

FORDHAM lost their first Tucker League match since May 26 when they lost by just two runs on Saturday.

The Fordham bowlers ripped through the middle order after Rogers (44) and Davis (24) had played well for Castor.

Carl Arnold (3-25) and Clinton Cornwell (2-21) led the way as the Castor innings ended on 136-9.

Fordham's reply began badly having been reduced to 35-4 but Darren Theobald (34), Gavin Harding (17) and Adam Cornwell (17) put them back in the match.

However, only Andy Benton (21) put up further resistance as wickets fell and Fordham fell two runs short. Castor's Knowles took 4-27.

Milton I v Littleport I

Milton won by three wickets

LITTLEPORT found runs hard to come by on a damp pitch and their total of 125 all out never looked enough.

Nigel Heaps (33), Terry Foster (19) and James South (29) were the chief run-makers in the Littleport innings.

Foster (2-22) and Douglas Marsh (2-44) tried to restrict the home side's reply but an opening partnership of 50 between Sam Allen (21) and Jeremy Major (25) put Milton in control.

The 'Port bowlers stuck to their task and Patrick Frost (1-21) and Chris Farnell (2-15) took the game to the wire.

But it wasn't enough and Milton reached 126-9 with just two overs to spare.

Fordham II v Needingworth

Needingworth won by seven wickets

FORDHAM lost their penultimate match of the season, going down by seven wickets against Needingworth.

On a rain-affected pitch, Fordham struggled with the bat, making just 87. Only four players reached double figures, with Barry Houghton making 17 and Luke Arnold finishing on 14 not out. Bob Milne (3-11), James Biddle (2-21) and Glenn Morris (2-9) all made an impression with the ball.

Ryan Houghton struck early for Fordham and Gary Palmer followed suit with two wickets. But 16-year-olds James Biddle (43 not out) and Callum Mitcham (18 not out) guided Needingworth to 88-3 in the 30th over.

Palmer (2-21) and Houghton (1-16), in his first outing in Division One, bowled well.

Witcham I v Burwell III

Witcham won by 171 runs

WITCHAM opener Nigel Pate top scored with 63 and put his side on the road to victory.

Pate was caught off Williams (2-49) but Hook (44) helped the score along to 103-2.

Few chipped in with 51 before being bowled by Pringle and Witcham reached a good score of 235-5.

Burwell had no answer to the Witcham bowling attack and were all out for 64 in 29 overs.

Sutton v NCI II

NCI won by 127 runs

SUTTON'S bowlers suffered as NCI scored well with the bat and reached 229-5.

Philip Day (3-35) and Steve Northrop (1-41) were the most effective bowlers on a flat pitch.

Rob Braybrooke produced a fine catch to dismiss Shyam Sadasivan on 85. Phil Scherb scored 67 not out and Robert Coe contributed 24.

Sutton lost their top three batsmen for 30 before a partnership of 55 between John Megginson and Philip Day gave them hope.

But following Day's dismissal, Sutton lost their last six wickets for just 18 runs and finished on 103 all out in 28 overs.

Sanjeev (5-22) led the NCI bowlers and Simon Hudson supported with 2-19.

Pymoor I v Doddington II

Pymoor won by 18 runs

PYMOOR opener Paul Ruskin top-scored with 44 and helped his team to a solid 219-5.

Potter (36) also batted well before both men fell to the bowling of Scott Bamford who also picked up the wicket of Legge.

Butcher (26 not out) and Herselman (37 not out) also contributed runs while Doddington's Ryan Faunch finished with 2-33.

Doddington captain and opener Kevin Smith (35) got his side off to a good start and Barrie Carter made 69 not out but it was not enough as Doddington fell short on 201-7. Ward took 3-54, Godsmark 2-38 and Paul Ruskin 1-18.

NCI IV v Witcham II

NCI won by 87 runs

A GOOD knock of 54 from Ahmed rescued NCI from 69-4 to a respectable 171-5.

Pate, Badcock and Spencer were the wicket takers for Witcham.

Witcham had another poor batting day and Houghton top-scored with 27 before he was caught by Markwell who took 3-23.

He was supported by Loveridge (3-10) and Mishra (2-25) as Witcham were bowled out for 84 in 32 overs.
