Mildenhall Fen Tigers stormed to the top of Speedway's National Development League (NDL) with two spectacular wins in as many days whilst maintaining their 100 per cent home record.

Racing at a new track on Saturday (June 3), the Tigers came away with a sensational 49-41 victory against newcomers Workington and then avenged their previous defeat to the Belle Vue Colts with a last-heat decider securing a 47-43 home victory on Sunday (June 4).

Team Manager Jason Gardner was very pleased with his team's efforts over the weekend and said: "I must praise the whole team over what has been a gruelling but ultimately very successful weekend's work.

"Winning at Workington was exceptional. Today [June 4] v Belle Vue was tough going, but we won as a team, and it was heartening to see everyone helping each other with the bike problems being suffered."

The 47-43 win at a sunny West Row over a plucky Belle Vue Colts side went right down to the wire, with the Tigers holding a slender four-point lead heading into heat 15, thanks partly to Tigers top scorer and man of the match Josh Warren.

At the start of the decider, The Mancunian's two nominated riders surged into a first lap 5-1 position, which would've taken the match into a deciding superheat.

However, Alfie Bowtell and Lee Complin muscled in front to hold onto the four-point margin and help the Fen men climb to the top position in the NDL table for the first time this campaign.

The win backed up one of the best away victories in the club's recent history when they emerged triumphant over Workington the day before, surging ahead in the final three heats when tied at 36-36.

Gardner added: "Now we are top of the table, we want to make sure we stay there."
