Ely Tigers missed the chance on climbing into third in the league after a 29-10 defeat.

Tigers travelled to Cantabrigian on February 11, and the hosts made the breakthrough on 15 minutes in this London 1 Eastern Counties League contest.

Aaron Borland replied for the visitors after a run from midfield, before a mistaken pass allowed Cantabrigian to race towards the try line and score to open a seven-point lead.

Ely had two penalties in quick succession from the restart, Joel Scott Paul missing from 24 metres but his second attempt from the same distance was successful.

The home side were dealt a blow after going down to 14 men for a high tackle moments into the second half but Ely were unable to take advantage.

Instead, another mistake allowed Cantabrigian to break away only for a last-gasp tackle into touch prevented the lead from widening.

Tigers were also reduced to 14 when Mitchell Kennett was booked, as their opponents scored more tries to seal victory.
